National Wildlife Refuges

The national wildlife refuge system is newer than the national park system. These sites have less development, no lodges, cabins etc. There's no hunting or camping, but there's lots of good wildlife to see. The birdwatchers love these places. The wildlife refuges are primarily active managed wetland systems, designed for migratory and local birds and wildlife. The system is managed by the National Fish and Wildlife Service.
